2010 Philippine Election Campaign Has Started

It's still 2008, yet the 2010 presidential election campaign has already begun.

Manny Villar

Manny Villar has this ad concerning OFW’s. The ad says he paid the fare of the abused Overseas Filipino Workers, saying “tulungan natin sila”. It is already Public knowledge that he will be running for President this coming 2010 elections. He probably paid more for the television ad than the fare of those OFW’s. This ad says that when he becomes president he will look after the plight of the working Filipinos abroad.

Noli De Castro

His ad has been running for a while through PAG-IBIG or the other way around. Maybe it is really a PAG-IBIG advertisement and he is there because he is the chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) who happens to be running for President in the 2010 elections. This ad basically says that when becomes president, he will have housing as a priority. Noli has come a long way from Newscaster, senator and then vice president.

Loren Legarda

I have just noticed this ad wherein she is surrounded by poor people and then she says “panahon na ng pagbabago”. Change being the theme of the ad. She will probably pattern her campaign with that of Barack Obama. The problem is I could not relate Loren with that of Change.

Mar Roxas

Well he has no ad yet but I expect Mr. Palengke will be back on TV soon. Mar Roxas was popular back then when he was still the DTI secretary but when we he became a senator, I rarely hear his name in the news. He was declared by the Liberal party to be their standard bearer in the upcoming 2010 movement. There is already the Mar Roxas for President in 2010 movement. He has also been featured in entertainment News because of his relationship with Korina. The presence of Korina will definitely boost his campaign.

Wait a minute, Does the omnibus election code provides for a specific campaign period and prohibits early campaigning?

Hope you'll link back.. thanks in advance....

yep, there is a provision in the OEC about the campaign period. Unfortunately, the code has loopholes, thus the premature campaigns.

I disagree, however, about Roxas. I've been seeing him and hearing him on the news. It's not the same thing I'd say about Escudero, since he became senator, he ceased talking. I think he's playing his cards right.

The rift between Lacson and Villar -- talk about election propaganda. Truth or not, we all know the real intention of Lacson.

I can tolerate all of them except for Legarda. I think she's another Arroyo.

Philippine elections are messy. You don't know where each candidate stand on certain issues and how they are planning to do them.

As a voter i think we have no choice but to vote for a lesser evil.

I am very interested in Philippine Election because I will be living in the Philippines by that time.

great article! your insights are very helpful. im really concerned about whats in store for us come 2010. as early as now we should be knowing the people who would be running for president.

im inviting you to share your thoughts on the 2010 presidentiables @ www.filipinofirst.org

there's also an on-going poll to see who is your choice to be the next president.

this website is for those who have not really decided who to vote for come 2010. this forum is where we could share what we know about the candidates - one of whom may be our next president!

pls support the site! Thanks and more power

I think Jejomar Binay will surface in the race soon.

HOW, REALLY, DID MANUEL BAMBA VILLAR, JR. GET TO BE RICH? It may bear and serve the Filipino nation well to investigate and know that Manny Villar may actually have broken through Tondo-ragged accountancy to billionaire-rich presidentiable by allowing himself to be used as a foreign investor’s dummy in the Philippine real estate business. You see, the conduct of real estate business in the Philippines is made exclusive by law to Filipino citizens, necessarily because it involves business affairs that affect sensitive issues about territory, patrimony, and national security. Wasn’t that a debonair American who was smilingly visible every day at the offices of Crown Asia, Inc., way back before the Villars became politically ambitious? Unfortunately, sighting that American presence at the Crown Asia, Inc. organization deteriorates to zero visibility in hot election weather, especially nowadays! As Manny Villar embarked on a political career, it naturally became strategically imperative to avoid flaks of damaging controversy about being economically beholden to foreign influence, especially from nationalist camps of the likes of then Senator Teofisto Guingona Jr. who was one among those instrumental in passing the general law limiting the conduct of real estate business in the Philippines to Filipinos only. In fact, it was from 1997 to 1999 that the bespactacled, middle-aged, happy American investor (silent or express?) of Crown Asia, Inc. was last regularly observed at the 18th Floor of Cityland Herrera Tower. Most of us do have "humble," sometimes "rotten," beginnings; yet being transparent about such beginnings can do more good than harm. Perhaps good Senator Manuel Villar may want to comment on this matter at this time?
